SIS-colloquium, 18.6.2004
As a part of establishing the European Institute for a Sustainable Information
Society, a SIS-colloquium, which was participated in by researchers from various
institutes of higher education, both from Finland and abroad, was held in June
2004. Focus was given to e-citizenship, welfare technologies, future user interfaces,
the enlargement of the European Union, teledemocracy and the cooperation between
the European Union (especially Finland) and Russia. Aristotle's and other classic
philosophers' views, as well as the views of recent sociological research on
urban societies and their development, where individuals' and communities' moral,
aesthetic, and political values are taken into cognisance, worked as starting
points for the seminar.
Safety and Crisis Management in Europe, 30.10.2004
The European Institute for a Sustainable Information Society and the Department of Management and Leadership of the (Finnish) National Defence College co-organized the seminar Safety and Crisis Management in Europe in the Kasarminmäki campus in Kouvola, Saturday, the 30th October, 2004.
A Good, Sacred Society
A colloquium under the title "A Good, Sacred Society" was held in January 2005 in co-operation with various Finnish researchers and institutes of higher education. The participants of the colloquium visited the Valamo Monastery (in Heinävesi) and the Joensuu Science Park (in Joensuu). This colloquium of the European Institute for a Sustainable Information Society concentrated on ethics and moral philosophy.
